Volk’s Electric Railway

Volk's Electric Railway

Volk's Electic Raailway

*****

The first and oldest electric railway in Britain was created in Brighton by Magnus Volk in 1883.

Each year, during the summer season, you can ride on the train.

You will find the station on The Promenade, a little to the east of Brighton Pier.

Ride to Black Rock Station, which is on the way east towards Brighton Marina .

There is a service every 15 minutes with a stop off midway

at Paston Place Station, for a free children’s playground.

Brighton Marina

It may be a lovely coastline to the East of Brighton

but in the 1960′s the local sailors no longer wanted

to moor up their vessels at the mercy of the open seas.

The outcome was  the development of a protected harbour

now known as Brighton Marina. Today there are almost two

thousand berths inside the huge concrete barrier,

ranking it alongside the biggest marinas in Europe.

Visit and you can now eat, drink,  shop, stay in a hotel

or even buy a home on the Marina.  Bars, restaurants

and shops, together with bowling, cinemas and a casino

make up the splendid array of leisure facilities.
